One of my personal projects at the internship was to initiate the company's incentive to create an Accessibility Lab to test with people with disabilities and raise awareness about the importance of inclusive design in the development process.

WHAT IS ACCESSIBILITY
“The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect.”
Accessibility involves two key issues: how users with disabilities access electronic information and how web content designers and developers enable web pages to function with assistive devices used by individuals with disabilities. For instance, a website is accessible if all people, including disabled and elderly people, can use it.
WHY SHOULD DISNEY BE ACCESSIBLE?
The more inclusive your application is, the broader the reach. Why exclude a segment of the population? While it might not always be easy, you might discover that improving the accessibility of your site can improve the experience for all users.

19.6% of the U.S. population as having some sort of disability. Within that group are individuals with visual, hearing, cognitive, and motor impairments.
WHO ELSE BENEFITS?

people using mobile phones, smart watches, smart TVs, and other devices with small screens, different input modes, etc.

Accessibility overlaps with other best practices such as mobile web design, device independence, multi-modal interaction, usability, design for older users, and search engine optimization (SEO). Accessible websites can have better search results, reduced maintenance costs, increased audience reach, and demonstrate corporate social responsibility (CSR).
MY EXPLORATION
After reviewing customer feedback on Web and Mobile, one pressing topic of concern was the inaccessibility of the platform’s content to individuals with disabilities. I conducted research on deriving a solution by planning out how the design and development teams could collaborate to enhance the accessibility by implementing certain features into the platform (Listed below).

Assessed the features of other online streaming services and how those could be incorporated into DisneyNOW's online platform. For instance, has audio description that makes shows and movies accessible for people with visual challenges.
